Context of Practice // Publication Development

I have decided that I would like a pattern to be cut on each page, however each page will be cut in a different area, to create a patter. I will choose 2 different stock colours to match eastern colours, red and white.
As you can see below I thought perhaps some variation of a sunrise which is mainly linked to Japan. However the publication is not only about Japan so i may have to alter the design to incorporate more eastern cultures

The design Idea I have is to create a symetrical sunrise on each of 6 pages, they will all be placed directly behind the title that will be cut out on the front of the folder, allowing you to see the sunrise through the cut out title. the 6 pages will alternate in colour, red, white, red white etc.

Because there will be 12 sections to the pattern it will wor so that each page will have 2 sections remaining and the rest will be removed, for example
  • page 1 - the 1st and 7th section will remain
  • page 2- the 2nd and 8th section will remain
  • page 3 - 3rd and 9th
  • page 4 - 4th and 10th
  • page 5 - 5th and 11th
  • page 6 - 6th and 12th
As the remaining sections will be cut out you will be able to see each pages remaining sections, therfore creating a complete design as a whole while still keeping each page individual and thirdly it will hopefully create a symmetrical 2 colour sunrise patter that will fill the cut title, creating a contrast of the solid black folder and the vivid red and white of the sunrise.

As the history of type mainly stems from the east, I wanted to choose eastern colours, so I initially thought that red and white would be the best option.
After a trip to the library i thought instead of using a plain white card it would look a bit nicer when printed on a light grey or cream stock.
