CoP // Publication Design Development - Digitalizing design

As I have already worked out the structure and layout of the publication it wasn't really that hard creating a consistent grid layout that could be used throughout. I used the colour Red do link to the psychology side of the project as it is eye catching and high energy and the cream is there to compliment the red, i propose to have the cover in a black thicker stock with a laser cut design.

I know each page is 180 mm x 180 mm so I set up a title box that will be conistent throughout the publication but will flip to the opposite page every page. This is just to give a bit of variation to the design.

As you can see in each title box depending on what side of the page it is on will be either up of down facing and will contain, the book title, the tile of the section and the specific subtitle of the page.

As you can see the sections change but the design remains pretty much consistent.

As you will be able to see from my initial concept boards that I presented in the crit after Easter, i produced a similar flow chart explaining how my publication will be structured, as I had gone to the hard work of producing it and working out what would be the best way of presenting my findings visually I thought i would use it as my contents page, so people can follow what areas fall under what sections as well as the content in each section. It is a little more interesting than just having an average listed contents page.

I  tried to take inspiration from some of the infographics i came across that you can see in earlier blog posts, i wanted to create visually interesting spreads so that the reader would be intrigued with the content rather than just bored.

As I had created a design style for this book I thought it would be fun to play around with the layout, as the title box is placed on its side, the publication could be turned round sound the bound edge is top side, this gave me a few cool opportunities to mess around with how the publication would be read.

I also wanted to incorporate quite a lot of space into the layouts as I thought simplicity would help not over complicate the message, and as I wrote quite a lot more content than I originally intended it was a little more tricky to produce spacious double page spreads so I have resulted in some being more simple and spacious and others containing more either written or visual content.
