Context of Practice //

I have decided that i want to look further into the art of paper manipulation / cutting, it is a tool I have only recently come across while studying on this course, but it is an aspect that I would love to learn more about, after doing a little bit of research I have found some absolutely unbelievable outcomes, this would be such a useful skill to learn, there is so much possibility for it when it comes to design.

Peter Callesen - Website - http://www.petercallesen.com/home/

He has some incredible pieces of work, creating huge exhibition pieces to tiny, intricate, detailed A4 pieces

As you can see some awesome visuals are created just by the manipulation of plain pieces of paper, I think using this technique I will be able to get some really interesting visuals for the publication, imagine cut outs contrasted with type, the only problem now I need to find out how to do this properly.

Aki Sogabe - Website http://www.akisogabe.com/

Paper cutting originated from ancient China  the art is call 'Kirie'  which is the Japanese word for paper cutting.

She creates some fantastic designs using just origami paper and a knife 'all images were hand cut by a knife' - Aki Sagobe,

I love the contrast of colours used in her designs, it keeps an oriental theme, but the bold reds against the dark colours really excite me. Her designs have given me an idea about my publication, maybe incorporating layers into the design alternating pages of cut and pages of text.
