Design Productions // Design for print - Paper types

GSM - Grams per Square Meter - This is the general measurement of paper weight and this does actually relate to the weight of the paper and this is the simplest and most effective way of describing the weight of paper.

Generally PAPER WEIGHT does not refer to the actual weight of a stock, but instead refers to the thickness and sturdiness of

The stock chosen to print on sevierly effects the print finish, design decisions should be made about the stock weight, finish, grain, coat, cost and quality at an early stage in the design process.

Finish

Grain -   It is important to state the grain direction for two reasons. In binding, pages open more easily and the book handles better if the grain direction runs parallel to the spine, also there is less strain on the binding edge.
